Making a difference where we live and work.
At the heart of our firm is a strong commitment to empowering the boarder communities we serve. We do this through the charities we support and our pro bono activities.
Explore our community initiatives in more detail below.
Community purpose.
As a firm, we aim to make an impact and provide valuable solutions to complex legal problems. A natural extension of this ethos is the support we provide for our community.
We are lucky to have individuals at our firm who are focused on social responsibility, and Watson Goepel recognizes and applauds their efforts. It is important to us as a firm, and as a group of individuals, to give back to the communities where we live and work. For this reason, we have chosen to focus our efforts on supporting two local charities dedicated to helping women and children flee abuse and move toward a brighter future. The North Shore Crisis Services Society supports women throughout the Lower Mainland, and the Greater Vancouver Food Bank provides fresh food to those in need.
In addition to our two main charities, our lawyers and staff give their time and contributions to the following charitable and community based organizations.
Charities we support.
Pro bono services.
Aligned with our role to be a community-focused firm, many Watson Goepel lawyers undertake pro bono services through Access Pro Bono.
The program benefits those in our community who cannot afford representation by making access to legal services more affordable. Everyone deserves sound and practical legal advice, no matter their financial situation.
Environmental
sustainability.
Being a sustainable business is something we have integrated into our day-to-day practices. As part of our onboarding, we ensure that our team members understand and follow sustainable guidelines in their day-to-day tasks and try to foster a culture where sustainability becomes second nature.
Committed to green practices.
Supply purchasing.
We partner with vendors and suppliers who minimize the number of total shipments for supplies and select equipment with higher post-consumer recycled content, lower energy consumption requirements, and/or reduced packaging.
Solid waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.
We reduce our paper and non-reusable supplies consumption as much as possible, such as switching to electronic documents for our practice and saving files digitally instead of sending them to file storage facilities.
Energy reduction and conservation.
We minimize our energy consumption by turning off unneeded lights and opting for equipment that has low energy requirements. Our building, recently achieved a Zero Carbon Building-Performance Standard certification from the Canada Green Building Council.
Recycling and composting.
We’ve established efficient recycling and compost systems throughout our firm’s workspace to ensure our team has ample opportunities to dispose of food packaging and waste sustainably.
